Description

Overview

The Department of Health Services Research is influential in research and teaching across a wide range of subjects including medical, dental and health sciences. We have expertise in a range of applied and mixed research methods including trials of complex interventions, service delivery, organisation and implementation of research and understanding complex behaviours.

We specialise in research within community settings including health and social care. Areas of specific interest include primary medical and dental care, health inequalities, mental health, palliative and dementia care, community development and policy analysis.

We have specific expertise in systematic reviews health and economic modeling, realist evidence synthesis, quantitative and qualitative methods, statistics, and dental research from laboratory research, with specific applications in the social sciences such as psychology, sociology, anthropology and bioethics.

Many of our academics hold posts within and/or work closely with, a range of NIHR networks and the Research Design Service NW. We are closely linked with the NIHR Collaboration for Leadership in Health Research and Care, North West Coast (CLAHRC NWC).

Targeting our key areas of interest we've systematically enhanced our research base, culture and infrastructure, whilst building internationally influential groups. We hold the Athena Swan Silver award. We have a strong track record in attracting fellowship funding, and are closely linked to the NIHR Research Design Service that helps applicants build more competitive grant bids. We have strong links with NHS, Social Care and Public Health as well as robust systems of, and support for, public engagement in our research.
