• Demonstration of sample preparation in the lab (homogenisation, NA isolation)
• Setup of qPCR experiment in the lab - practical work (mixtures preparation, pipetting, qPCR instrument setup & run)
• Introduction to data analysis: SDS, melting curve

Thursday, December 6th
• Analyzing the diagnostic data & interpretation - practical work (SDS, excel) - cases: Phytoplasmas, Bacteria
• Validation of qPCR methods under EPPO standards I
• Validation of qPCR methods under EPPO standards II (diagnostic specificity and selectivty, repeatability, reproducibility, ring tests, performance tests)

Learning Outcomes

Real-time PCR technology is an essential technique in every molecular biology diagnostic and research lab for many reasons: impeccable sensitivity, accuracy and scalability to high-throughput.

The hands-on 4-day qPCR Experience® workshop: Real-time PCR in Phytodiagnostics will focus on diagnostics and quantification of plant pathogenic microorganisms using real-time PCR.

Extensive practical sessions will be held in ISO accredited laboratories of National Institute of Biology in Ljubljana which include state-of-the-art qPCR centre and is the coorganizer of the workshop.

The workshop will cover review of qPCR theory, practical guidance on plant sample preparation and quality control, assay design, quality assurance according to ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 standards as well as hands-on lab and data analysis sessions.
